Former Labor Prime Minister Gordon Brown has been praised for his contribution to the Scottish independence campaign by Conservative Minister for State for Scotland David Mundell.

EDINBURGH, September 19 (RIA Novosti), Mark Hirst – Former Labor Prime Minister Gordon Brown has been praised for his contribution to the Scottish independence campaign by Conservative Minister for State for Scotland David Mundell.

"Gordon Brown has played a very significant role as have a large number of other people. I listened to Gordon's speech yesterday and it was very, very impressive," Mundell told RIA Novosti Friday.

"Gordon has set out clearly the very reasons why you would want to keep the United Kingdom together," he added.

"I also think my own leader, [Scottish Conservative leader] Ruth Davidson, should also be acknowledged," Mundell said. "I think she has played a blinder in this game. She has been really passionate for Britain and also for Scotland."

On Thursday, people in Scotland were voting in the historic independence referendum. Voters were given a ballot paper with the question: "Should Scotland be an independent country?" and the "yes" or "no" options.

If the majority of Scots votes "yes" in the referendum, then on March 24, 2016, Scotland will become independent from the United Kingdom.
