MOSCOW, September 19 (RIA Novosti) – The first official results in the historic council area of Clackmannanshire saw pro-unity supporters in the Scottish independence referendum win 54 to 46 percent, according to the local elections commission.
According to the report, 53.8 percent of voters said "no," while 46.2 percent said "yes." The turnout in the country was reported at 88.6%.
"No" won by 19,036 to 16,350, with the total number of ballots amounting to 35,410, BBC said.
At 10 p.m., referendum polls closed at 5,579 voting stations in 32 councils across Scotland, with official results expected to be announced between 6:30 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. local time on Friday.
On Thursday, people in Scotland were voting in the historical independence referendum. Voters were given a ballot paper with the question: "Should Scotland be an independent country?" and the "Yes" or "No" options.
If the majority of Scots vote "yes" in the referendum, then on March 24, 2016, Scotland will become independent from the United Kingdom.
