WASHINGTON, September 10 (RIA Novosti)- The United States is not planning to cooperate with Iran, in the fight with the Islamic State (IS) jihadist group, the US Secretary of State John Kerry told the press Wednesday during a visit to Baghdad.

“The United States does not cooperate, militarily or otherwise, nor does it have any intention in this process of doing so, with Iran. Whatever they do is collateral and on their own. And we will pursue our own coalition over the course of these next weeks,” Kerry said.

“Iran obviously is opposed to ISIL. And then Iran is taking its own actions and has taken its own actions with respect to ISIL,” he added.

Earlier, Iran’ Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has authorized an elite unit of the Revolutionary Guards to work with the forces fighting against the IS, including the United States, BBC reported, with reference to an anonymous Iranian source.

The Islamic State is a terrorist group, which has been fighting the Syrian government since 2012. In 2014, it seized vast areas across Iraq and Syria and proclaimed an Islamic caliphate. The group is particularly infamous for its brutality and hardline Islamic fundamentalism. In Augus, the United States started carrying out airstrikes against the IS insurgents.
