Coleen Rowley, a former FBI agent and whistleblower, has announced he is signing a petition demanding an independent inquiry into the broader sociopolitical circumstances of MH17 crash in eastern Ukraine.

WASHINGTON, September 10 (RIA Novosti), Lyudmila Chernova – Coleen Rowley, a former FBI agent and whistleblower, has announced she is signing a petition demanding an independent inquiry into the broader sociopolitical circumstances of MH17 crash in eastern Ukraine.

“Many anti-nuclear weapon, international security and peace group members are signing this petition calling for an independent inquiry into the greater context and events in Ukraine that quite likely surround the tragic downing,” Rowley told RIA Novosti on Wednesday.

The petition comes amid the rushed reaction of some US politicians who hastened to place the blame for the downing of the aircraft on Russia without any sufficient evidence.

"Accustomed to waiting, except in emergency circumstances, for conclusive information before rushing to judgment, we believe that the charges against Russia should be rooted in solid, far more convincing evidence. And that goes in spades with respect to inflammatory incidents like the shoot-down of an airliner," the former agent cited a memo sent to US President Barack Obama signed by some US intelligence analysts, criticizing the rush behind MH17 report.

Rowley said that the Dutch Safety Board taking a long time to investigate the plane crash is in sync with UN Security Council Resolution 2166 that “supports efforts to establish a full, thorough and independent international investigation into the incident in accordance with international civil aviation guidelines.”

The theory that the MH17 flight was shot down by a missile has not yet been proved but “experts are saying that it should be possible to eventually determine, through radar and wreckage, the location where such a missile was most probably launched,” Rowley said.

So far the investigation has been hampered by the ongoing military confrontation in the region, but the current ceasefire should help in facilitating the investigation.

According to the Dutch Safety Board preliminary report on MH17 crash, the plane broke up in the air probably as a result of being hit by a large number of objects that penetrated the aircraft from outside. A more concise report is expected to be produced within a year.

MH17 flight, en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, crashed on July 17 in the Donetsk region, killing all 298 people on board, including 283 passengers and 15 crew members.
