MOSCOW, September 10 (RIA Novosti) – More than 440 people were killed in the intense flooding that struck India and Pakistan, the Associated Press reported, citing local authorities.

Some 241 people in Pakistan and at least 200 people in India are among the casualties. More than 60,000 residents have been evacuated from disaster areas. Pakistani authorities have warned that another 700 thousand people may be affected by the flooding in the coming days, they have been advised to leave their homes in advance. A total of million and a half people have already suffered from the disaster.

The highest number of deaths was recorded in the northern Indian state of Punjab and the Pakistan Administered Kashmir. Dozens of bridges were destroyed or damaged, and thousands of people were left homeless. The authorities are setting campsites and first aid rooms for those affected by the aftermaths of the heavy rainfall. In some areas, the water rose to 13 feet, completely covering the low-rise buildings. In India, approximately 2,500 villages have been partially or completely flooded. According to the forecast, the rains and floods will only increase in the coming days.
