MOSCOW, September 7 (RIA Novosti) - Militia in eastern Ukraine proposes to transport artillery from the firing range to regions of the country under international security observation, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Donetsk People’s Republic, Andrei Purgin, told RIA Novosti on Sunday.
"Solid guarantees of peace can only be achieved with OSCE monitoring. Artillery should be removed from the firing range and placed in areas under international security observation. Otherwise, aggressive and poorly managed national guard units will be constantly defying the ceasefire," he said.
Earlier on Sunday, the self-proclaimed Donetsk (DPR) and Luhansk (LPR) People's Republics reportedly introduced a number of "urgent measures" to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) to aid in implementing the protocol agreed upon in Minsk on September 5 by the trilateral Contact Group. The republics hope for a speedy approval from the OSCE in addition to impartial monitoring of the ceasefire by the organization.
Ukraine has been engulfed in violent internal conflict since mid-April, when Kiev began its military operation against independence supporters in the southeastern regions of the country. According to United Nations’ estimates, over 2,500 people have been killed and more than 6,000 wounded since the start of the offensive.
