MOSCOW, September 4 (RIA Novosti) - NATO member nations are pleased with the Ukrainian crisis escalation and the deterioration of relations with Russia, Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin wrote in his Twitter microblog Thursday.

“The Americans are happy that it’s possible to 1)Beat additional defense spending, that is acquisition of weapons made in the USA, from the Europeans; 2)Give a raison d’etre to NATO in light of the ‘Russian threat’, securing its military presence in Europe and running European economic affairs,” the official’s Tweets read.

Rogozin added that it is advantageous for the United States to “weaken Europe – its principal economic competitor – with an economic conflict with Russia”.

The deputy prime minister also noted that, “For a number of European leaders, with morally bankrupt reputations at home, a good ‘virtual war’ is just the thing to distract attention away from continuing economic stagnation problems.”

“This is why NATO – a hysterical brain child of the Cold War – has spread its wings and is waiting for new adventures,” Rogozin concluded.

The NATO summit, taking place in Wales September 4-5, includes a delegation from Ukraine. The organization’s Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen earlier claimed that during the summit NATO will decide on the provision of financial and other aid to Ukraine.
