Death of Journalists in Ukraine ‘Absolutely Unacceptable’: Council of Europe

MOSCOW, September 3 (RIA Novosti) - The fact that journalists have become victims in the Ukrainian conflict is absolutely unacceptable, Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjorn Jagland said on Wednesday.

“It is absolutely unacceptable that journalists are becoming victims of this conflict, and are being killed,” said Jagland, commenting on the news about the death of Rossiya Segodnya International Information Agency photojournalist Andrei Stenin. He added that “this bloodshed has gone too far already and has got to stop.”

Jagland is scheduled to meet with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Thursday in Moscow.

Earlier on Wednesday, Rossiya Segodnya Director General Dmitry Kiselev announced that according to the information received from the Russian Investigative Committee, the agency’s photojournalist Andrei Stenin who went missing in eastern Ukraine on August 5, died about a month ago just outside Donetsk.

Investigative Committee spokesman Vladimir Markin said photographer Andrei Stenin was among those killed in a Ukrainian attack on a column of refugees guarded by several eastern Ukraine independence supporters.
