MOSCOW, September 3 (RIA Novosti) – Russian investigators have confirmed that Rossiya Segodnya photographer Andrei Stenin was among those killed during an attack on a convoy of at least 10 vehicles carrying civilians in early August, Russian Investigative Committee spokesman Vladimir Markin said Wednesday.
The Russian Investigative Committee confirmed Wednesday that Stenin died approximately a month ago, when the car he was travelling in came under fire and near Donetsk in eastern Ukraine.
“As a result of the attack, more than 10 vehicles with civilians were destroyed. Some were able to escape [the attack] and hid along the roadside,” Markin said.
After the convoy was destroyed, Ukrainian military officers collected the personal belongings and searched the victims, Markin added.
“Our colleague, photojournalist Andrei Stenin has been killed. It turned out that he was not taken prisoner. It turned out, no one planned to swap him for any Ukrainian military personnel or accuse him of terrorist activities. All of the announcements that we heard from the Ukrainians about Stenin’s fate were lies. He died one month ago in a car that he was in while fulfilling his journalistic duties. The vehicle came under fire and burned on a highway near Donetsk,” Rossiya Segodnya’s head Dmitry Kiselev said.
