Russian bank Gazprombank has hired former Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott and former Senator John Breaux to lobby against US sanctions, according to the disclosed lobbying registration.

MOSCOW, September 3 (RIA Novosti) - Russian bank Gazprombank has hired former Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott and former Senator John Breaux to lobby against US sanctions, according to the disclosed lobbying registration.

The registration states that Lott and Breaux will focus on “banking laws and regulations including applicable sanctions.”

Lott is a former Republican senator from Mississippi. He was elected to the US Senate in 1988 and served as the Mississippi senator from 1989 until 2007.

Breaux spent 18 years in the US Senate where he served on the House Public Works and Transportation Committee, the Senate Finance Committee, and the Senate Commerce Committee.

In 2008, Lott and Breaux opened a lobbying firm which was purchased by another lobbying company two years later.

Gazprombank is one of the Russian companies that were included in the US sanctions list on July 16. The United States together with the European Union have imposed sanctions on Russia over its alleged meddling in Ukraine’s internal affairs.

Moscow has repeatedly denied any involvement with the Ukrainian crisis and called for a peaceful settlement of the conflict.
