KIEV, September 2 (RIA Novosti) -The Ukrainian parliament, the Verkhovna Rada removed Economic Development and Trade Minister Pavlo Sheremeta from office, on Tuesday.

Sheremeta was nominated by Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk and took office in February of this year.

According to Ukrainian legislature, removal from, or appointments to ministerial positions must be made by the parliament.

Pavlo Sheremeta submitted a letter of resignation to Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk on August 20. He handed over his duties to his deputy Anatoly Maksyuta.

“Instead of yet another fight with yesterday's system, I have decided to concentrate on working with tomorrow’s people who will create tomorrow's system,” he wrote on his Facebook page. In interviews with Ukrainian media, Sheremeta said that he will not change his decision even though he did not have any specific plans for the future.

Ukraine is currently on the brink of default, with its authorities seeking international loans.

In May, the IMF approved a $17 billion loan to Ukraine in the form of a two-year stabilization program. On Monday, Ukraine received the second installment of financial aid, totaling $1.4 billion. The first IMF loan tranche of $3.16 billion was sent to Ukraine in early May.
