BELGRADE, August 29 (RIA Novosti) – Russia’s Ilyushin Il-76 airlifter, carrying 20 tons of humanitarian aid for the Serbians, who are suffering from severe floods, will arrive at the Batajnica military airport near Belgrade on August 30, a source at the Russian embassy in Serbia said Friday.

“The aid to Serbia is organized by the Russian Ministry of Defense,” the source told RIA Novosti.

Serbia is to be given two five-ton power generators, 10 high-capacity pumps, 10 mobile water tanks, 200 medium-volume thermoses and 50 large-volume ones.

In May, Serbia suffered from disastrous floods caused by continuous rain. Rivers have overflowed their banks and flooded vast areas of land. The disaster has killed 33 people, while another 32,000 have been moved away from the flooded areas. While the Serbian government has collected $15.8 million in donations, total damage from the floods is estimated at $1.9 billion.

Russian rescuers were in Serbia on May 16-26, evacuating around 3,000 people, including over 600 children.
