MOSCOW, August 29 (RIA Novosti) - Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko is to meet with US President Barack Obama in the White House on September 18 to discuss the crisis in Ukraine’s east, according to an official statement on the White House website.
“President Obama will host President Petro Poroshenko of Ukraine at the White House on Thursday, September 18,” the statement says.
“The visit will highlight the United States’ firm commitment to stand with Ukraine as it pursues democracy, independence and stability. President Obama looks forward to discussing with President Poroshenko efforts to pursue a diplomatic resolution to the crisis in eastern Ukraine as well as our continued support for Ukraine’s struggle to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity,” the statement read.
Earlier, Obama said that he is looking forward to the bilateral meeting with Poroshenko and wishes to show US’ thorough support to Ukraine.
