Reporters Without Borders Calls for Immediate Release of Andrei Stenin

The Berlin office of the international press freedom watchdog Reporters Without Borders called on the immediate release of Andrei Stenin, photographer of the news agency Rossiya Segodnya, who has been missing in Ukraine since the beginning of the month.

MOSCOW, August 29 (RIA Novosti) - The Berlin office of the international press freedom watchdog Reporters Without Borders called on the immediate release of Andrei Stenin, photographer of the news agency Rossiya Segodnya, who has been missing in Ukraine since the beginning of the month.

“We are deeply concerned that the whereabouts of Rossiya Segodnya journalist Andrei Stenin are still unknown," Executive Director of Reporters Without Borders Germany Christian Mihr told RIA Novosti.

"We call on those, who have captured him to, to immediately release him," Mihr added.

A Russian journalist working for Rossiya Segodnya International News Agency, Stenin went missing in eastern Ukraine on August 5. On August 9, Rossiya Segodnya filed a request with the Ukrainian Interior Ministry to take immediate action to locate the photographer. His whereabouts remain unknown.

"We condemn any abduction or forced disappearance of journalists and media workers," Mihr said.

Reporters without Borders urged all parties to the conflict in eastern Ukraine to respect the work of journalists and guarantee their security.

"We call on Russian and Ukrainian authorities and all conflict parties not to help these things happening,” Mihr stressed.

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev expressed his concern Thursday over the disappearance of Stenin.
