MOSCOW, August 26 (RIA Novosti) – The final decision on further sales of US-made Jack Daniel’s whiskey in Russia will be made by the court, Anna Popova, the head of Russian consumer rights agency Rospotrebnadzor, said Tuesday.
“Unfortunately, no manufacturers in the world demonstrate consistent product quality. Some violations are found to be to one extent or another. This is one of those cases, and we deal with it. The final decision will be made by the court,” Popova told journalists.
On August 22, Rospotrebnadzor found a chemical agent in Jack Daniel’s whiskey in Sverdlovsk Region that can cause allergies and functional changes to the nervous system.
Earlier in August, the Russian sanitary authority found phthalates, which can cause functional and organic changes to the central and peripheral nervous system and the endocrine system, as well as cancer and infertility problems in men and women, in Kentucky Gentleman, a US-made whiskey.
Inspections of US products, as well as fast food chain McDonald’s, are being held amid the deterioration of relations between Russia and the West over the crisis in Ukraine.
