MOSCOW, August 26 (RIA Novosti) - Public support for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has fallen to new lows amid the continuing Israeli offensive in Gaza, according to a poll conducted by Channel 2.

The poll found that the leaders approval rating was just 38 percent, down 17 percent since the last poll the previous Thursday and almost 50 percent since his recorded high of 82 percent on July 23 they report.

The weariness of the Israeli people support for Operation Protective Edge has been growing in the past few weeks as the number of Israeli deaths and attacks on Israeli soil have grown. Especially as Netanyahu remarked last week on public radio that the Operation is “will continue until its aims are achieved… even after the school year opens.”

On July 8, Israel launched Operation Protective Edge against the Hamas movement in response to the military group’s rocket attacks. On July 17, the Israeli switched to a ground offensive to destroy Hamas rocket launchers and the network of attack tunnels along the Gaza border with western Israel. The conflict claimed the lives of some 2,000 Palestinians, mostly civilians, and over 60 people on the Israeli side.
