MOSCOW, August 25 (RIA Novosti) - Planes from Russia’s Emergencies Ministry will deliver 38 tons of humanitarian aid to China, the ministry reported on its website Monday.

“Today, after the instruction received from the Russian government, the Emergencies Ministry’s IL-76 plane with the humanitarian aid for the People’s Republic of China has left the Ramenskoye airport located near Moscow,” the statement said.

Blankets and portable electrical power stations will be delivered to the southwestern China’s city of Kunming in Yunnan Province.

In August, a powerful 6.1-magnitude earthquake hit China’s province of Yunnan. The epicenter was 11 kilometers (9 miles) from Wenping and 29 kilometers from Zhaotong. The quake struck at a depth of about 10 kilometers.

The quake that was the strongest to hit the province in the past 14 years claimed about 600 lives. More than 2,400 people have been injured and another 240,000 have been evacuated.

Tens of thousands of homes have been destroyed or severely damaged.
