MOSCOW, August 24 (RIA Novosti) - Over 720 Ukrainian military died in eastern Ukraine since the start of Kiev’s military operation against independence supporters, another 2,600 have been wounded, Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council said Sunday.
“During the anti-terrorist operation, 722 military have died, 2625 have been wounded,” the service said in a report.
At the same time, the council’s spokesman Andriy Lysenko said on July 30, that 363 Ukrainian soldiers were killed and over 1,400 others injured since the operation started.
Since mid-April, Kiev forces have been conducting a military operation in southeastern Ukraine, aimed at suppressing independence supporters who refused to acknowledge the new government that came to power following a February 22 coup.
Moscow has described the ongoing military action as a punitive operation and has repeatedly called on Kiev to put an immediate end to the bloodshed.
