MOSCOW, August 22 (RIA Novosti) - The World Health Organization (WHO) is preparing a strategy to fight the deadly Ebola virus in West African countries, Reuters reported Friday, citing WHO spokeswoman Fadela Chaib.

"WHO is working on an Ebola road map document … It details the strategy for WHO and health partners for six to nine months to come," Chaib told reporters.

"Frankly no one knows when this outbreak of Ebola will end," the WHO spokeswoman added.

Earlier in the day, the WHO said that it would hold a meeting of experts in September to discuss the possible methods of treating the West African Ebola outbreak.

The number of deaths from the Ebola virus disease in the West African countries of Liberia, Nigeria, Guinea and Sierra Leone has spiked to 1,350, the WHO reported Wednesday.

There is no licensed treatment or vaccine for the Ebola virus yet, which has a case fatality rate of up to 90 percent.

Last week, WHO concluded that it is ethical to use experimental drugs to treat patients infected with the virus.

A number of companies in the United States, Japan and Canada have been working on an Ebola vaccine. The United States delivered three doses of the experimental ZMapp serum to Liberia. According to the health agency, some 10 or 12 doses of the serum currently exist. Two American aid workers who contracted Ebola while working in Liberia became the first humans to be treated with ZMapp. Both recovered and were released from a hospital this week.
