BRUSSELS, August 22 (RIA Novosti) – The European Commission is not ready to comment on the situation with the Russian humanitarian aid convoy that crossed the Ukrainian border earlier Friday, Sebastien Brabant, the EU foreign policy chief’s deputy spokesperson said.

“We’ve seen the recent reports, they are conflicting. We cannot make comments until we’ve checked the facts. Our position, which was voiced many times by foreign ministers last week and by President [of the European Commission Jose Manuel] Barroso in his talks with President [of Russia Vladimir] Putin and President [of Ukraine Petro] Poroshenko, is that Russian humanitarian aid [has] to be delivered in full conformity with international law, through competent international organizations and with the consent of the Ukrainian authorities,” Brabant said.

Earlier in the day, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported that Moscow decided to begin moving its convoy of humanitarian aid toward the eastern Ukrainian city of Luhansk and would oppose any attempts to disrupt the badly needed humanitarian mission. A number of trucks carrying Russian humanitarian aid have already left Ukraine’s Izvarino border crossing, heading to Luhansk, according to a RIA Novosti source.
