FERGUSON, MO, AUGUST 21 (RIA Novosti) – The hooliganism and looting that followed the police killing of an unarmed African-American teenager have ravaged the economy and cost jobs in the downtrodden suburb of Ferguson, one of the protestors Monica Porter told RIA Novosti.

“These looters are tearing up our communities and people are losing jobs over this, because of this looting. Until they bring this man to justice, there’s going to be trouble every day. Not a day is gonna go by without things getting torn up,” Porter said.

“If it were me, one of my two boys, one of my grandsons, one of my nephews, they’d be in jail. Had it been a black man, an Asian man – any foreign man – he would be in jail and the indictment would have been served in 48 hours,” the protester stressed.

Ferguson, a mostly African-American suburb of St Louis of some 21,000 residents, has been rocked by protests since the police killing of Michael Brown as he walked with a friend on a residential street on the afternoon of August 9.

Missouri National Guard troops have been deployed to tackle the violence, which lessened on Tuesday night thanks to a big police presence. Law enforcers have been criticized for using tear gas, rubber bullets and other heavy-handed measures.

On Wednesday, demonstrators switched from the downtrodden suburb of Ferguson to St. Louis County prosecutor's office , where they rallied against tardiness in the charging of Darren Wilson, 28, the police officer responsible for the shooting.
