MOSCOW, August 20 (RIA Novosti) - European Commission experts and representatives from EU member states’ ministries of agriculture are to discuss meat and dairy industries problems resulting from the August 28 Russian food ban, the commission’s spokesman, Roger White, told RIA Novosti Wednesday.

“Next week the meeting will take place on Thursday, August 28. They will discuss meat and dairy products,” White said.

Previous discussions focused on fruit and vegetables since the sector required immediate action.

Starting last week, meetings between European Commission experts and EU member states started occurring weekly, as a result of the Russian food ban.

On August 7, Russia implemented a ban on food imports from the United States, the European Union, Canada, Australia and Norway. The ban targets meat, poultry, dairy products, fruit and vegetables and other products.

The ban was introduced in response to sanctions imposed on Russia by Western countries over Russia’s alleged role in the escalation of the Ukrainian crisis, which Moscow has repeatedly denied.
