MOSCOW, August 18 (RIA Novosti) — Missouri Governor Jay Nixon signed an order Monday to allow a National Guard unit into the city over continued unrest after the shooting death of an unarmed 18-year-old last week by police, CNN has reported.
On August 9, Michael Brown was shot by police in the city of Ferguson, setting off protests. Police have used teargas against the protesters, but unrest continues along with looting in the city.
Nixon earlier imposed martial law in the city.
The police started using tear gas against protesters again Sunday night and injured a child in a clash, Vox portal reported Monday.
Earlier reports said shooting could be heard in the vicinity of the clashes, which broke out again Sunday, with about 400 people, including women and children, taking part in the demonstration.
Forensic experts found that the African-American teenager was shot no less than six times, CNN reported earlier Monday. One of the pathologists said two bullets hit the teenager’s head.
The police identified the officer who shot Brown as Darren Wilson. The teenager was said to have been a suspect in a convenience store robbery. Local authorities, however, said the officer was not aware of that at the time. According to the city’s police chief, Brown was stopped because he was "walking down the middle of the street blocking traffic."
US President Barack Obama ordered the FBI and the Department of Justice to join the probe. At least 40 FBI agents are investigating the case.
