MOSCOW, August 17 (RIA Novosti) - The representatives of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) are expected to arrive at the checkpoint in the town of Donetsk in Russia's Rostov Region to oversee a Russian humanitarian convoy crossing the Ukrainian border, a representative of the contractor company transporting the cargo told RIA Novosti Sunday.
"Several OSCE representatives are expected to arrive at the checkpoint on Sunday," he said.
The trucks carrying humanitarian aid to Ukraine’s eastern regions have been parked in the town of Kamensk-Shakhtinsky, in the Russian Rostov Region, for several days awaiting the permission of the Ukrainian authorities to cross the border. The first 16 of them began to move towards the border on Sunday morning with more trucks expected to follow later in the day.
In early August, in light of a worsening humanitarian situation in the Ukrainian east, Russia came up with a proposal at the UN Security Council to send an international humanitarian mission with Russian humanitarian aid under the auspices of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to the troubled regions.
On August 12, 280 trucks carrying about 2,000 tons of humanitarian aid, with 400 tons of grain, 100 tons of sugar, 62 tons of baby food, 54 tons of medication, 12,000 sleeping bags and 69 mobile electrical generators set off from the Moscow region heading towards conflict areas in crisis-torn Ukraine.
