MOSCOW, August 10 (RIA Novosti) – President of Iraqi Kurdistan Masoud Barzani asked the international community to provide his country with weapons to fight against Islamic State militants, Reuters reported Sunday.

"We are not fighting a terrorist organization, we are fighting a terrorist state," Barzani said at a press conference with French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius, who arrived in the capital of Iraqi Kurdistan, Erbil, to discuss deliveries of humanitarian aid for the Kurds.

Earlier today, it was reported that Islamic State militants have killed at least 500 members of Kurdish ethnic minority Yezidis in Iraq. There are evidence that Islamists buried women and children alive. According to the media, Iraqi authorities discovered mass graves of Yezidis. Militants have also kidnapped nearly 300 women as their slaves.

The Islamic State is a Sunni group that has been fighting in Syria and launched an offensive in Iraq in June. The group has taken over large parts of the country, with the goal of seizing Baghdad. Also in June, the group announced the establishment of a caliphate on the Iraq-Syria border.
