MOSCOW, August 9 (RIA Novosti) – Egypt’s administrative court ordered Saturday a dissolution of the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP), an Islamist party and political wing of the already banned Muslim Brotherhood.

The court ruled that the party was involved in illegal activity.

The Saturday’s ruling is irrevocable and officially prevents the Brotherhood from formally participating in parliamentary elections slated for later this year, as well as any other electoral politics. The court also ordered that the FJP’s assets be seized by the state.

The party's defense said the decision was unconstitutional.

Following a string of mass protests in July 2013, the Egyptian military ousted President Mohammed Morsi and declared the movement, which supported the overthrown leader, illegal.

In December 2013, the Muslim Brotherhood was designated a terrorist organization. A number of its members were convicted of inciting murders and violence. The group dismisses the charges as politically motivated.

The FJP currently headed by Saad Katatni was established in June 2011. Morsi was the party’s first leader before he decided to run for presidency in 2012.
