The Japanese authorities have recommended 382,000 residents of the southeastern island of Shikoku to evacuate due to heavy rain, NHK channel reported Tuesday.

TOKYO, August 5 (RIA Novosti) – The Japanese authorities have recommended 382,000 residents of the southeastern island of Shikoku to evacuate due to heavy rain, NHK channel reported Tuesday.

In particular, the evacuation advisory was issued for people from prefectures of Kochi, Ehime and Tokushima, according to the channel.

More than 1,200 millimeters of rain has fallen in some part of Shikoku since the start of the torrential downpour, according to NHK.

Super typhoon Halong will hit the southern coast of Japan on Wednesday, the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) reported Monday. The typhoon Halong, which received the 11th category in Japan, is currently heading towards the southern prefecture of Okinawa with central pressure at 950 millibars and the speed of 90 miles per hour (40 meters per second).

Last month, the southern and central regions of Japan were hit by typhoon Neoguri, which was declared the most powerful of all that passed over Japanese archipelago in July. Neoguri claimed lives of 3 people and left another 63 injured.
