MOSCOW, July 31 (RIA Novosti) - Three suspected suicide bombers were arrested in Nigeria, with a 10-year old girl strapped in an explosive belt and an 18-year old young woman among them, AllAfrica reports.

“Security forces on Tuesday July 29, arrested three suspects believed to be members of Boko Haram, including a “10-year-old girl,” Coordinator of the National Information Centre, Mike Omeri is cited as saying by AllAfrica.

Almost simultaneously, a female suicide bomber detonated an improvised explosive device killing six bystanders on the campus of a Kano State college, reports Daily Post Nigeria with reference to Omeri.

This is the fourth time Boko Haram Islamist are suspected of using females as attackers.

The new trend of sending girls and women on suicide missions causes outrage even among some radicals.

“It is hard, and horrifying, to imagine how [the girl] was compelled to become a jihad-martyrdom suicide bomber,” writes American author and Islamic terrorism expert Robert Spencer in his blog Jihad Watch.

This tactic seemed to become popular after the Islamist group abducted over 200 girls from a small town in the northeastern part of the country three and a half months ago.

The major reason terrorists use females in suicide missions is because women are less suspicious, AllAfrica writes with reference to Force Public Relations Officer Frank Mba.

Apart from that, according to Nigeria’s “rule of engagement, male security officers are not allowed to search females but … are developing counter-terrorism strategy to deal with that,” Mba is cited as saying.

The Islamist group is held responsible for the deaths of over 10,000 people starting 2009, with 2,000 killed only in the first half of 2014.
