Russia is concerned about Kiev authorities trying to destroy evidence of the tragedy that happened to Malaysian plane downed in eastern Ukraine on July 17, Russian Ambassador to the United Nations Vitaly Churkin said Wednesday.

UNITED NATIONS, July 31 (RIA Novosti) – Russia is concerned about Kiev authorities trying to destroy evidence of the tragedy that happened to Malaysian plane downed in eastern Ukraine on July 17, Russian Ambassador to the United Nations Vitaly Churkin said Wednesday.

“We fear that Kiev authorities are aiming at destroying the evidence that unveil their role in the catastrophe of Malaysian airliner,” Churkin told the UN Security Council.

According to the diplomat, Ukrainian president Petro Poroshenko promised to cease fire in the area of the plane crash site but “this promise was broken and Ukrainian officials publicly declared a new goal – to clear this territory of independence supporters and take over it.”

Earlier Monday, Russian Foreign Ministry said that recent attempts of international experts to get close to the crash site failed due to Kiev starting military action, which is a violation of the UN Security Council orders.

On Wednesday, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has also expressed concern over continued heavy fighting around the crash site of a Malaysian passenger plane in eastern Ukraine that impedes the international investigation of the incident.

Malaysia Airlines MH17 en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur went down in eastern Ukraine on July 17. All 298 people on board, including 85 children and 15 crew members, died in the crash.
