NEW YORK, July 29 (RIA Novosti) – Palestinians in the besieged coastal strip of Gaza face a “public health crisis” because of Israeli airstrikes on infrastructure, an aid worker told RIA Novosti.

“Gaza is on the precipice of a public health crisis where the rapid spread of water borne disease and illness will wreak further havoc on a population that is struggling to survive under indiscriminate Israeli bombardment,” said Danny Muller, who worked in the region.

“Israel has intentionally targeted water wells, pipes and sewage stations. This has exacerbated the water crisis that already existed due to the Israeli blockade. Put simply: bombing civilian infrastructure that delivers and purifies water is murder.”

Israel has stepped up attacks on Palestinian militants in Hamas-controlled Gaza in a three-week conflict that has resulted in the deaths more than 1,150 Palestinians and more than 50 Israelis. Israel says it is acting to prevent militant rocket attacks.
