MOSCOW, July 28 (RIA Novosti) - Muslims in the United States' Utah have recently been turning to one another, feeling like outsiders in their own faith, especially after the month-long religious obligation Ramadan has ended, The Salt Lake Tribune Reported Monday.
"We pray alone, fast alone and worship alone…Going to the mosque is kind of like going to the school cafeteria and not being one of the cool kids. People tend to separate along cultural or ethnic lines — and leave us out," said an American convert Chiloh Harville as cited by The Salt Lake Tribune.
Those Muslims who felt alone in the United States, tried to join an organization called Muslims for Progressive Values, but after a while they realized that they wanted to stay closer to the original religion.
Until three months ago, a Palestinian Muslim Shareen Kayyali hadn’t been to a mosque since she moved to Utah in 2007.
"I feel judged at a regular mosque, because I don’t wear hijab. But I don’t feel any less religious without it [head covering],” a University of Utah student Shareen Kayyali said to The Salt Lake Tribune.
In order to find people who would share their values and beliefs, Utah Muslims have created a Facebook page Al-Farah Muslims that is opened to "all individuals that identify themselves as Muslims regardless of gender, lifestyle, economic or educational background, sexual orientation, race, nationality or affiliation with any sector subgroup of Islam," and "to conduct activities in a way that is in keeping with Islamic principles of mercy, justice, charity and intellectual achievement."
