WARSAW, July 27 (RIA Novosti) – Polish consular services are assisting their national Bianka Zalewska, a correspondent of Ukraine’s Espreso TV channel, who was wounded in the combat zone in eastern Ukraine, representative of the Polish Foreign Ministry’s press service told journalists Sunday.

“Yes, we confirm reports that a Polish journalist was wounded. We have already contacted her. She is in grave condition but not to the point when she cannot talk,” the official said.

According to the ministry, Polish consuls are lending the injured reporter all the necessary assistance.

The official also said that “Polish TV journalist has been transferred to a hospital in Kharkiv.”

This was not the first tragic incident that happened with media workers in Ukraine. In June, a cameraman for Russia’s Channel-1 TV station, Anatoly Klyan sustained a stomach wound in an attack by the Ukrainian Special Forces and died as he was being rushed to the hospital. Earlier, two employees of Russia’s state-run VGTRK media holding, reporter Igor Kornelyuk and sound engineer Anton Voloshin lost their lives in a mortar attack near the Ukrainian city of Luhansk. Late May, Russian human rights activist Andrei Mironov and Italian photojournalist Andrea Rocchelli died near the city of Slaviansk. Russian news teams had also been repeatedly detained by Ukrainian troops and came under fire.
