GAZA, July 23 (RIA Novosti) – Israeli military has allowed Red Cross medics to evacuate dead and wounded Palestinian civilians from three combat zones in the Gaza Strip close to the Israeli border, local spokesman Naser Najjar said.

According to Najjar, specially designated Red Cross cars have already left for the southern village of Huzaa, the town of Beit Hanoun and the al-Shijaya area in eastern Gaza Strip.

Israel has not yet commented on these local “humanitarian recesses,” but the evacuation is expected to swell the list of Palestinian casualties, which now stands at 660 dead and over 4,200 wounded.

Israel launched its Operation Protective Edge on July 8, with the alleged objective to prevent Hamas militants from firing rockets from Gaza. At least 31 Israelis have been killed in the past 15 days of the Israeli ground offensive.

On Tuesday, a number of major Russian, US and European airlines said they suspended flights to Israel after a missile landed close to Ben Gurion airport outside Tel Aviv.
