Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak said he instructed his country’s attorney-general to closely investigate the Malaysia Airlines MH17 crash in eastern Ukraine and possibly open cases against those responsible for the tragedy, Malaysian Insider reported Wednesday.

MOSCOW, July 23 (RIA Novosti) – Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak said he instructed his country’s attorney-general to closely investigate the Malaysia Airlines MH17 crash in eastern Ukraine and possibly open cases against those responsible for the tragedy, Malaysian Insider reported Wednesday.

"I've directed the attorney-general to study this carefully and in detail, to ensure any actions taken by Malaysia in the future is in line with international laws," the newspaper cited Razak as saying during an emergency parliamentary session.

The Malaysian prime minister, however, stressed that no one can be blamed for what has happened before the investigation is over.

“A few hours after MH17 crashed, officials in the US and Ukraine claimed it was shot down. If that is true, we criticize the party believed to be responsible. However, we are not pointing fingers at anyone at this stage, until evidence has really been obtained,” Reuters quoted Razak as saying.

According to the Malaysian newspaper The Star, Razak also urged the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) to issue a resolution condemning a possible attack against flight MH17 and stated that Ukraine should be responsible for conducting investigations.

Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur crashed on July 17 near the city of Donetsk in eastern Ukraine, killing all the 298 people on board.

Ukrainian authorities place the blame on the independence supporters in the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic for shooting down the plane with a missile, while the militia forces say they did not have the missiles to shoot a target flying at 33,000 feet.
