BUENOS AIRES, July 19 (RIA Novosti) – Chinese leader Xi Jinping and Argentina’s President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner expressed their condolences to the families of the victims of the crash of a Malaysian Boeing-777 and called for an independent and fair investigation of the tragedy.

The two leaders made their statement at the press conference following bilateral talks and during the gala dinner that Kirchner arranged for her Chinese counterpart, who is currently visiting Argentina.

According to Kirchner, it is necessary to hold “a speedy and objective investigation to determine what happened”. In his turn, Xi Jinping said he is deeply concerned with the accident.

“We believe that it is necessary to hold a fair and objective investigation in order to elicit facts and learn the truth about the crash as soon as possible,” Chinese leader stressed.

On Thursday, a Malaysia Airlines Boeing-777 flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur crashed near the town of Torez in Ukraine’s Donetsk Region with 298 people on board. All passengers and crew members, including 85 children, died. Kiev authorities accused the self-defense forces of the southeastern regions of Ukraine of downing the aircraft, while the leader of the Donetsk People’s Republic said local militia doesn’t have the required technologies.
