MOSCOW, July 18 (RIA Novosti) - Malaysian B777-200 aircraft that crashed in eastern Ukraine on July 17 had a clean maintenance record, Malaysia Airlines said in a statement on Friday.

“The B777-200 aircraft bearing registration no. 9M-MRD that operated MH17 on 17 July, 2014, had a clean maintenance record,” the statement said.

The plane’s last maintenance check was carried out on July 11, with the next check planned for August 27. The maintenance was conducted at the airlines’ hangar at Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

The statement said, “all communications systems on the aircraft were functioning normally.”

After the crash, Malaysia Airlines announced that all of their European flights would be taking alternative routes.

The International Civil Aviation Organization had earlier declared its usual flight route safe, another statement from the airline pointed out.

The flight from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur was carrying a total number of 298 people, which included 283 passengers and 15 crew members. The aircraft was in service for 17 years, since its manufacture in 1997, with 75,322 flight hours and a total of 11,434 cycles recorded.

Russian President Vladimir Putin conveyed his condolences to Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte and Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak. Ukrainian authorities and Malaysia Airlines are investigating the incident.
