Moscow is waiting on Kiev’s explanations regarding the shelling of the Russian territory and information on the Ukrainian military units deployed near the border, Russian Deputy Defense Minister Anatoly Antonov said Friday.

MOSCOW, July 18 (RIA Novosti) – Moscow is waiting on Kiev’s explanations regarding the shelling of the Russian territory and information on the Ukrainian military units deployed near the border, Russian Deputy Defense Minister Anatoly Antonov said Friday.

“A request has been filed to the Ukrainian authorities for explanations regarding the shelling of the Russian territory, as well as information on the military hardware and Armed Forces personnel deployed in Ukraine’s Kherson and Luhansk Regions near the Russian state border, Antonov said.

The deputy defense minister elaborated that in accordance with the Vienna Document of 2011 the Ukrainian side should provide data on the aim of the deployment of forces, exact location and timeline of the deployment, as well as names of the units, their personnel, number and inventory.

“The defense ministry is voicing deep concern over ongoing shelling of Russian near-border villages from the Ukrainian territory and the deployment of Armed Forces units near the Russian border. Such actions are of an apparent provocative nature and require a thorough OSCE inquiry. For this purpose, the Russian side has circulated via its channels with OSCE a notification addressed to the Ukrainian authorities,” according to Antonov.

Attacks on the Russian territory by the Ukrainian side have intensified since the beginning of July. On July 3, the Novoshakhtinsk crossing point came under fire. The next day, bomb disposal experts and investigators were targeted by mortar fire in the Donetsk checkpoint. On July 5, about a dozen munitions exploded near the same checkpoint.

On July 10, the Ukrainian government forces opened artillery fire at the Gukovo crossing point on the Russian-Ukrainian border. No injuries were reported.

The Russian Foreign Ministry has lodged a strong objection over the shelling of the Russian territory and urged Kiev to stop these attacks.
