The United States called for a ceasefire in Ukraine to carry out an international investigation into the crash of the Malaysian Boeing in the country’s Donetsk region, White House Spokesperson Josh Earnest announced Friday.

WASHINGTON, July 18 (RIA Novosti) – The United States called for a ceasefire in Ukraine to carry out an international investigation into the crash of the Malaysian Boeing in the country’s Donetsk region, White House Spokesperson Josh Earnest announced Friday.

“It is critical that there be a full, credible, and unimpeded international investigation as quickly as possible,” Earnest said.

“We urge all concerned … to support an immediate ceasefire in order to ensure safe and unfettered access to the crash site for international investigators and in order to facilitate the recovery of remains,” he added.

According to the White House spokesperson, all international organizations should take an active part in the investigation of the accident.

“The role of international organizations – such as the United Nations and the OSCE in Ukraine – may be particularly relevant for this effort, and we will be in touch with affected nations and our partners in these organizations in the coming hours and days to determine the best path forward,” Earnest stressed.

283 passengers and 15 crew members died as a Malaysia Airlines Boeing-777 flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur crashed Thursday near the town of Torez in Ukraine’s Donetsk Region. It has not been determined yet what caused the accident.

Ukraine’s state-run air traffic operator Ukraerorukh announced that leading international experts would be engaged to clarify the circumstances of the tragedy.

Earlier on Thursday, the Russian Emergencies Ministry said it had filed an official request to its Ukrainian colleagues to conduct joint works at the crash site.

Following the tragedy, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon called for a full, transparent international investigation and said he was following closely every report on the accident together with the International Civil Aviation Organization.
