UNITED NATIONS, July 18 (RIA Novosti) – UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has called for a full, transparent international investigation into the crash of the Malaysian Boeing over Ukraine.
“There is clearly a need for a full and transparent international investigation,” the UN chief said addressing reports early Friday.
Ban added that he was following closely every report on the accident together with the International Civil Aviation Organization.
He expressed his deep condolences to the families and friends of the victims.
“For the moment, I offer my deep condolences to the families and loved ones of the victims and people of Malaysia,” Ban said.
Boeing-777 of Malaysia Airlines carrying 280 passengers and 15 crew members crashed Thursday near the town of Torez in Ukraine’s Donetsk Region.
Ukraine’s state-run air traffic operator Ukraerorukh announced that the accident would be investigated by leading international experts.
Earlier on Thursday, the Russian Emergencies Ministry filed an official request to Ukraine to allow its rescuers to conduct joint efforts at the crash site.
