The Prosecutor General of the Donetsk People’s Republic said Tuesday that Kiev most likely used chemical weapons against residents in southeastern Ukraine.

MOSCOW, July 15 (RIA Novosti) – The Prosecutor General of the Donetsk People’s Republic said Tuesday that Kiev most likely used chemical weapons against residents in southeastern Ukraine.

«It can be said with 99% assurance that [Kiev] used chemical weapons. Besides expert analysis, we have also conducted an investigation and people in the hospital show relevant signs," Ravil Khalikov said in a live interview on Russia’s Rossiya-24 television.

He said that the expert analysis has not yet been completed.

«We were brought soil samples and a whole range of material evidence. This was all sent to Rostov [in Russia] and then the Prosecutor General’s Office in the Rostov Region sent the samples to Moscow," he said.

Earlier this month, independence supporters in the southeastern Ukrainian city of Slaviansk claimed that the Kiev-led security forces used chemical weapons in the suburbs of the city.

The commander of the Donetsk People’s Republic militia Igor Strelkov said earlier that people with symptoms of chlorine poisoning were admitted to hospitals in Slaviansk.

Russia’s UN envoy Vitaly Churkin said Moscow calls for an investigation into the alleged use of chemical weapons against independence forces in Ukraine’s east.
