The strategic partnership between Brazil and Russia has become more profound and dynamic in recent years, Brazilian Foreign Minister Luiz Alberto Figueiredo said in an interview with RIA Novosti Monday.

The strategic partnership between Brazil and Russia has become more profound and dynamic in recent years, Brazilian Foreign Minister Luiz Alberto Figueiredo said in an interview with RIA Novosti Monday.

“Bilateral relations are in a great shape right now and are very important for both countries. … Our strategic partnership has become more profound and dynamic in recent years,” Figueiredo stated.

The Brazilian foreign minister talked about interaction between the two countries within the framework of international organizations and stressed that the dialogue is intensive, especially within the G20 and the UN.

“Brazil and Russia protect the role of the UN, especially the role of the UN Security Council, as the main international institution for issues of peace and security,” Figueiredo stated. “Brazil and Russia are characterized by the solidarity of their assessments of different issues, related to the system of international affairs and the way it works,” the Brazilian foreign minister added.

According to Figueiredo, within the G20, consultations devoted to the global economy, especially the financial sphere, are becoming more vigorous.

The minister also noted the important role that both Brazil and Russia played in establishing BRICS. “Our countries will host the summits in 2014 and 2015, which will bring our diplomatic institutions even closer,” Figueiredo stated. “We expect to complete negotiations on establishing a BRICS Development Bank and Reserve Fund at this VI Summit,” the minister said.

“Together with Russia, we advocate the reform of global management structures, including the system of IMF and World Bank quotas, so that they reflect the relative weight of large countries with booming economies in the world economic system,” Figueiredo stressed.

The VI BRICS Summit is to take place on July 15-16 in the Brazilian city of Fortaleza. The main issues to be discussed by BRICS members Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa are the prospects for economic integration, challenges to sustainable development, trade and the simplification of visa regimes.
