MOSCOW, July 4 (RIA Novosti) – France’s civil aviation authority on Friday announced extra security checks on direct flights to the US at the request of the American side, Agence France-Presse reported citing an official statement.
The new measures "will be carried out in a way to limit as much as possible inconvenience to passengers, however delays are possible," the statement said.
Earlier, the US Secretary of Homeland Security announced it will tighten security at overseas airports that have direct flights to the United States. Washington is concerned by reports saying al-Qaeda insurgents in Syria and Yemen are working on bombs designed to be smuggled past airport screening and onto planes. The UK has also ramped up security at its airports.
Russian airports and Aeroflot, Russia’s largest airline, have not received any requests from the US and are not yet planning to introduce any additional security measures.
