The international community must ask Kiev to ensure security for diplomats and embassies, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Monday.

MOSCOW, June 16 (RIA Novosti) — The international community must ask Kiev to ensure security for diplomats and embassies, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Monday.

"The International community must require of the Ukrainian authorities to ensure the security for the diplomatic missions, the Russian as well as others," Lavrov said.

Lavrov added that he had nothing to talk about with his Ukrainian counterpart Andrii Deshchytsia after the attitude he had shown near the Russian embassy in Kiev.

"I said everything yesterday in regard to his behavior. I have nothing more to talk about, and I am not planning to talk to him anymore," Lavrov said.

Lavrov hopes that the international community will work actively to transfer the Ukrainian crisis to a political course.

"We hope that the reason will prevail and that everyone able to impact the situation [in Ukraine] will not work on the escalation of the situation but on transferring it to the political course," Lavrov said.

The Russian foreign minister said that Russia would take additional security measures concerning its embassy in Kiev.

"The issue of attacking the embassy: we will certainly take additional security measures," Lavrov said.

Deshchytsia was spotted chanting abusive slogans with the crowd after he was called to diffuse the conflict in front of the Russian embassy on Saturday.

Several hundred hooligans attacked the Russian diplomatic mission in the Ukrainian capital Kiev tearing the Russian flag from the embassy building, pulling cobblestones from the street to hurl at the mission and overturning several diplomatic cars. Rocks, eggs filled with brilliant green and smoke grenades pelted the facade.

Balaclava-wearing protesters threw a Molotov cocktail inside the compound, starting a minor fire which was swiftly extinguished. The police did nothing to stop the crowd, according to local media outlets.

Instead of confronting the protesters who vandalized the Russian embassy, Ukraine’s top diplomatic official appeared to side with them, saying he supported the protest. He later claimed this was a mere stunt he used to distract the crowd from laying siege to the embassy.
