MOSCOW, June 10 (RIA Novosti) – Former US Ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul said that Iranian authorities denied him an entry visa to the country.
“Had planned to travel to Iran this week for a conference, but found out today that I was denied a visa,” he wrote on his twitter page Tuesday.
“Disappointed my Iranian visa was rejected today. Looking forward to day when I can visit again. Last visit in 2005 was amazing,” the diplomat wrote a few hours later.
There has been no information about the reasons for the visa refusal to the US diplomat.
Former US Ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul resigned from his post in February, having taken the job in January 2012. After his departure the then Deputy Chief of Mission Sheila Gwaltney took over ambassadorial duties. The name of the next US Ambassador to Russia is not yet known.
