KIEV, May 26 (RIA Novosti) – Residents are being evacuated from homes in the vicinity of the Donetsk International Airport in eastern Ukraine after a violent gunfight involving Ukrainian armed forces broke out, a member of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic wrote on Twitter on Monday.
“Road police have cut off all roads leading to the Donetsk Airport. Neighboring districts are being evacuated. Intense machinegun fire is going on near the airport. Self-defense forces say there are many snipers among the Ukrainian servicemen,” the activist said.
Representatives of the Donetsk People’s Republic earlier said on Twitter the Ukrainian military were dropping bombs on an airfield in Donetsk. The vicious offensive has wounded two people, according to media reports.
