ASTANA, May 21 (RIA Novosti) – Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev has proposed the creation of an Organization for Security and Cooperation in Asia (OSCA) under the auspices of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), newskaz.ru reported Wednesday.
“It should challenge the OSCE. The West cannot successfully develop if isolated from the East, without mutual cooperation and understanding, as well as without taking into account the values and traditions of the East,” Nazarbayev was quoted as saying during a CICA summit in China.
The Kazakh president stressed that the economic crisis that engulfed the entire world six years ago is still escalating gradually, penetrating not only the financial and economic sphere but also social, political and cultural life.
“This is an all-national crisis, which is systematical in its essence. That’s why we, the Asian countries, should take independent measures to ensure peaceful development of the continent. OSCA can play a crucial role in this process. I urge all CICA member states not to delay this issue,” Nazarbayev said, adding that mutual trust should become one of the key pillars of the future organization.
