TOKYO, April 25 (RIA Novosti), Yekaterina Plyasunkova – The Japanese government will provide $1.1 million in financial assistance to Ukraine to promote stability in the region, the Japanese Foreign Ministry said Friday.
Over half of the aid will be allocated to fund the special OSCE monitoring mission in Ukraine in an effort to promote dialogue to resolve the crisis in Ukraine and stabilize the situation in the country, the ministry said in a statement.
Some $400,000 will be allocated to the European Council in order to ensure the transparency and integrity of elections scheduled by Ukraine’s parliament for May 25.
In February, the Ukrainian parliament backed by far-right movements ousted President Viktor Yanukovych and scheduled the early presidential election. Moscow has described the uprising in Kiev as an illegitimate fascist coup and a military seizure of power, which resulted in it taking steps to protect ethnic Russians in Ukraine, including the reunification with Crimea.
