Boston city police have developed extensive security plans for the upcoming 118th Boston Marathon on Monday, the first since the deadly bombing last year, a Boston Police Department spokesman told RIA Novosti Wednesday.

MOSCOW, April 17 (RIA Novosti) – Boston city police have developed extensive security plans for the upcoming 118th Boston Marathon on Monday, the first since the deadly bombing last year, a Boston Police Department spokesman told RIA Novosti Wednesday.

“We have a very well-thought-out plan, and we are very confident in it,” Sgt. Michael McCarthy told RIA Novosti.

McCarthy noted that Boston police had worked on the plan with their partners in the community for about seven months, including the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency (MEMA).

“They have done a great job in coordinating efforts among the eight cities and towns that the 26.2 mile course runs through,” he said. “And here in Boston we’ve coordinated with MEMA to make sure that the day goes off as a great family and fun day as it’s always been.”

Besides MEMA, law enforcement partners, including state police as well as some federal agencies, have been working closely together to make Boston a safe and secure place.

“It’s been an effort that has involved many agencies across many jurisdictions,” McCarthy added.

The city has already started hosting memorial events beginning with a tribute on Tuesday, and they have been well secured by law enforcement.

“There’s been extensive planning for each event that occurs here,” he said. “We are confident in the plans that we have in place for each of them.”

Although several events are to take place in the next few days, the most anticipated one is the marathon.

“We are looking forward to that day to implement our extensive plan,” said McCarthy. “There is no specific threat to the marathon itself that we have intelligence of at this point.”
