The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) will debate a resolution on the Russian delegation’s credentials on Thursday, according to Alexei Pushkov, the delegation’s head.

STRASBOURG, April 7 (RIA Novosti) – The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) will debate a resolution on the Russian delegation’s credentials on Thursday, according to Alexei Pushkov, the delegation’s head.

Pushkov, speaking to the press after a meeting of the assembly’s governing body, said the resolution would be ready on Tuesday, with amendments to be added on Wednesday.

The Russian delegation is expected to make a decision about its membership in the assembly depending on the content of the amendments.

Prior to the opening of the assembly’s spring session on Monday, two proposals were submitted concerning the status of the Russian delegation in light of the situation surrounding the reunification of Crimea with Russia.

An initiative by British parliamentarian Robert Walter proposes to revise the Russian delegation’s credentials until the end of the year.

A Dutch initiative coming from Michael Aastrup Jensen would strip Russia’s voting rights for the current session.

Pushkov added that PACE members largely support retaining the Russian delegation’s credentials.
