Russia and Kazakhstan will ratify a new treaty on bilateral cooperation and national friendship in the near future, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Thursday during talks with Kazakh Foreign Minister Yerlan Idrisov.

MOSCOW, April 3 (RIA Novosti) - Russia and Kazakhstan will ratify a new treaty on bilateral cooperation and national friendship in the near future, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Thursday during talks with Kazakh Foreign Minister Yerlan Idrisov.

"The ratification documents signed in November have already been presented to the president," Lavrov said.

The Russian foreign minister added that he expects both countries to soon complete all the necessary procedures for the ratification of the Treaty on Good-Neighborliness and Friendship.

The moves comes amid Moscow's efforts to reassess its participation in the global economy and focus on the Eurasian integration project, planned to become Russia's counterweight to the European Union.

The Eurasian project, proposed by Vladimir Putin in 2011, envisages the creation of a Eurasian Economic Union (EAU), including Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan, by next year. Armenia and Kyrgyzstan have also pledged to join.
